Buying A Generic Brand Mattress Over a Name Brand
A lot of people wonder what type of bed they should get and if there is a certain brand that makes better beds than others. We have done a lot of research with the intent to help people to find the right bed for them but at a reasonable price. As a mattress shopper you should know the differences between a name brand mattress and a generic brand mattress–not much besides price.
In our research we discovered that there are a handful of major suppliers for the mattress industry that supply the industrial standard goods such as the foams and the coil systems. These major suppliers supply name brand companies such as Simmons, Serta, Sealy, and Tempur-Pedic as well as many quality generic manufacturers. As we learned about this we realized that a lot of generic beds are made with the same stuff that goes into name brand beds which means that they have the same feel and will last the same amount of time, and be of the same quality.
This generic vs name brand environment is similar to the medical industry. You can go to your local pharmacy and buy Advil or Ibuprofen because both have the same active ingredients and provide the same level of pain relief but one is a higher priced name brand (Advil) and the other is the lower priced generic version (Ibuprofen).
We want people to understand that as long as the manufacturer is using the industry standard materials in their beds, there is no functional difference between a generic bed and a name brand… except the price. With name brand you are paying for name recognition, marketing, and executive teams. Personally I would rather just pay for the bed.
There are a lot of examples of this on the market. If you go to Tempur Pedic’s website and look at the Tempur-Cloud Supreme, the King sized mattress is selling for $2,899.00. A king sized generic form of the Tempur-Cloud Supreme called the Visco Heir ET made by BedBoss sells on Amazon for as low as $924.76. Both the beds have great reviews from their perspective mattress owners but there is that major discrepancy in price.
There are certain products where name brand really does matter. As a mattress consumer, there are compelling reasons to find a quality generic brand mattress over the name brand. They get the same quality but at a much better price so that you can have a great nights sleep without breaking the bank.
